Mini Reviews

What readers are saying

Cathmon just finished reading Endless Night by Agatha Christie and she has this to say about it.

I don't normally read mysteries, but my oldest son does and we watched the movie together, so I wanted to read the book. My son describes it as "Christie's creepiest mystery," and it certainly is. A poor man and a rich girl meet and fall in love, but danger lurks everywhere. I can't say too much about it without giving anything away, but I wish that I didn't know how it ended while reading the book. I did enjoy both the book and the movie, but of course the book was better. The title refers to a poem by William Blake called "Auguries of Innocence."

Eaglie just finished Joy In The Morning by Betty Smith and she says:

Finished first book earlier this evening - Joy in the Morning, by Betty Smith. While it was a nice story and the characters showed determination through hard things, I was disappointed with some of the language (mild by today's *standards*) - I didn't remember that from my first read MANY years ago. Was also surprised that the only thing I remembered from the story (Annie getting her hair cut) happened differently and much earlier in the story than I recalled. Oh well. Onto my next book: Pioneers of Faith, by Dr. Lester Sumrall.

Nakia just finished The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. Lots of bloggers have been buzzing about this book. She says: I just finished The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. It was really good. I would really recommend it. It is short, easy to read, and is just a fabulous story.

Susan over at Pages Turned shares some of her favorite quotes from The Secret Scriptures by Sebastian Barry.

Kalah finished Wolf Boy by Evan Kuhlman and said: I began/finished this remarkable book. It jumped off the shelf at me on Wednesday at the library and thought it would be a fun read. Well, it wasn't fun but it was well written, IMO. It's about a grieving family after the eldest son is suddenly killed. I hope to hear more from this author.

Five interesting books to consider one of your 52 reads.

Happy Reading.

  2. Nakia, our son would like to read 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' by John Boyne but I thought it might be just too sad. He is eleven and is quite sensitive to sad stories. Do you think the ending would set his mind at rest, or is it the sort of book that might haunt him?
    Many thanks,
    Lorna
