This is my first attempt in the blogging world...so here goes:
I finished Charms for the Easy Life by Kaye Gibbons the other day and absolutely loved it. It was a book I had randomly listed from what others were planning to read for this 52 week challenge. My dd was able to pick it up at the library and I finished it in two days.
It is the story of three women at the turn of the century in rural North Carolina, centering around the grandmother, who practices as an unlicensed doctor. I loved the strength and stubbornness of the characters - they reminded me so much of the older, "southern" women in my family. I also loved that it was what would call a quick, comfortable read; which is what I really need right now. I'm not in the mood for something that's going to jolt me into the horrors of mankind, nor do I want sticky sweetness. I don't believe "Charms" is part of a series but I will definitely look for other books by this author.

Good review, Shawne. Sounds interesting. Will have to check it out on Amazon.

I have a couple of Kaye Gibbons books on one of my shelves, and I've no idea why I haven't read either one of them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe one or the other will make it into my list of 52 this year.
